What is the Feldenkrais Method®?
The Feldenkrais Method® facilitates learning about movement, posture and breathing.
Everything we do in life involves movement, and with this a person brings particular habits
that make their movement less efficient, or even painful. The Feldenkrais Method® helps
people to discover what their particular habits may be, and assists with creating new options
of movement and being. These options will mean you will learn to move more easily,
with less effort and less pain.
Who can benefit from the Feldenkrais Method®?
· People with pain or stiffness
· People with neurological conditions; such as stroke, head injuries or multiple sclerosis
· Actors, musicians or other performers
· Athletes or dancers
· Anyone who is interested in movement and improving their function
What does Feldenkrais mean?
“The aim is a body that is organized to move with minimum effort and
maximum efficiency, not through muscular strength but increased
consciousness of how it works” Moshe Feldenkrais.
The Feldenkrais Method® takes its name from its founder, Dr Moshe Feldenkrais.
Dr Feldenkrais had studies in mechanical and electrical engineering, martial arts,
physics and biomechanics. He designed a method based on learning/education,
self development and human functioning when he sustained a significant knee injury.
This method is now practiced world-wide.
What is Functional Integration (FI)?
In a Functional Integration ® session Rachel will design a lesson which is specific to your
individual needs. This lesson will involve either lying or sitting on a low, padded table.
Rachel will then explore your movement with a non invasive, gentle touch. This touch is
designed to bring present habits into focus, and to offer new movement options. The
learning is then applied to everyday activities such as reaching, sitting, standing and
walking. During this lesson you will remain fully clothed, therefore it is important to wear
comfortable clothes during your session.
