Jin Shin Do®
Bodymind Acupressure™

Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure™ uses gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific acu-points together with Body Focusing techniques to help release armouring or chronic tension, and balance the Qi or energy. Developed by psychotherapist Iona Marsaa Teeguarden.

Jin Shin Do® is a unique synthesis of:

• Traditional Japanese Finger Pressure
• Classical Chinese 5 Element Theory
• Reichian Segmental Theory
• Taoist Philosophy
• Qigong Exercises and Breathing
• Western Psychology

It is like Acupuncture only using finger pressure instead of needles. JSD Acupressure promotes a pleasant trance-like state, in which one can move out of the head and into the body, accessing feelings and inner wisdom.

“Jin Shin Do” means
“The Way of the Compassionate Spirit”.

This non-invasive therapy is performed fully dressed face up on the table.

Remedial massage

A more intense therapeutic Remedial  massage aims to focus on injuries or problem areas, thus to remedy an injury  or issue. Deep pressure combined with trigger points and stretching helps to release tight muscles and tensions in the fascia.  Remedial massage assists breaking up scar tissue, freeing up any nerves that may be affected and providing relief for tensions, aches and pains.  Also aids in restoring full movement where there has been restriction.

Relief may be provided for lower back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain/ frozen shoulder, tension headaches, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel and cramps.

Sarah is a provider with most Health Funds for Remedial massage.

Relaxation massage

This  full body massage aims to relax the whole body from the tips of your fingers and toes to your head, face and ears.  Moving fresh blood and lymph through tired muscles relieving stagnant toxins increasing the circulation of fresh oxygen through the skin's cells to refresh and rejuvenate. This style of massage may improve skin vitality, tone and radiance resulting in weight loss and cellulite reduction as cellular metabolism is increased. This one hour massage will leave you relaxed and renewed.

Chinese Acupressure Massage

Chinese Acupressure Massage is an ancient healing art that evolved from the folk therapy thousands of years ago to alleviate diseases.  Acupressure massage has the ability to regulate nerve function, to strengthen the body's resistance to disease, to flush out the tissues and to improve circulation of blood and to make the joints more flexible.  Applying the wisdom of the Chinese meridian system blood and Qi (Chi) or energy can be moved through the body to balancing and protecting from disease.

Deep connective tissue massage

Deep connective tissue massage uses slow and deep strokes to access the deepest levels of fascia.  No oil is used in order that resistance is created and thus the connective tissue releases in a passive way and the tissue returns to a state of elasticity.  Consecutive moves are repeated 3-5 times and with each time depth, warmth and elasticity increase as the tissue is affected and blood flow stimulated.

The connective tissue is one continuous network that wraps all of the organs, structures and vessels in the body, spreading from head to toe. It is integral to our whole system even down to a cellular level.  If there is restriction/scar tissue or a holding in one part of the body it can affect the entire connective tissue.

Sports massage

Massage has been found to greatly enhance one's sporting performance and recovery rate from sport and physical exercise. Sports massage has a positive effect on the entire body system contributing to overall energy, boosting endurance levels and helps to prevent muscular injuries. The benefits of massage can be seen in competitive sports and leisure activities alike. There is a tendency towards weakness at site of previous injury.    Sports massage is preventative; it can greatly reduce the risk of trauma to an old injury, by maintaining elasticity, flexibility and suppleness of tendons, ligaments and joints.  Restoring muscle function and healing from restrictive scar tissue in the muscles.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a science based on the principle that the feet are a map in miniature of all organs, glands and parts of the body. By effective stimulation of various areas, or 'reflexes' on the feet, the body is encouraged to regain and maintain harmony and balance (homeostasis) in a safe and natural way.

We live in an age where at least 75% of illness is believed to be stress related.  Why not use the ultimate in relaxation therapy -Reflexology- to help alleviate the problem?  Reflexology releases the muscular tourniquets placed on the body by stress and tension.  This relaxation facilitates improved blood and nerve supply to the tissues and the elimination of wastes and toxins from the body.  This in turn allows nature to achieve homeostasis = healthy and well functioning.

Reflexology can be useful for inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or injured muscles when the local area is too painful to be massaged directly.

Because reflexology is completely safe and non-intrusive, it can be used in conjunction with any other therapeutic modality.  Indeed a 90 minute neck and shoulder massage combined with reflexology is highly recommended. Why not start of with a hot foot soak to ease away tensions plus a half leg massage for total pampering and ultimate relaxation?

Lymphatic drainage massage

This is a light and gentle massage that encourages the drainage of fluid and toxins through the lymphatic vessels.   The lymphatic system is our first line of defense in fighting bodily infections, detoxifying the body and transporting metabolic wastes, excess water and bacteria out of the body.

As the Lymphatic vessels lie just below the skin the methods used in this massage are light, milking and gently pumping. You might notice a pleasant tingling or a subtle 'pins and needles' sensation as the circulation is affected.  This action stimulates the opening of one way valves and aids 1/10th of fluid return to the cardiovascular system, which is vital because it can return no other way.  These vessels have no “heart” to pump them and rely on skeletal muscle pumps (eg. in the calf muscles when walking, they are squeezed and 'pumped') and by active respiration, or in this case massage 'mechanical' stimulation.

It is highly recommended for people who have a low immunity and are prone to sore throat, tonsillitis, colds and infections.  Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits or groin, and those suffering from fluid retention (puffy ankles), oedema and lymphoedema. Lymphatic massage may be useful during pregnancy for those experiencing tiredness or a lack of energy and the physically inactive.  Can be useful during detoxification and may aid in weight loss.

Structural alignment using MET  (Muscle Energy Technique)

Utilizing the incredibly effective and painless Muscle Energy Technique (MET is also used by Osteopaths) to restore proprioceptive integrity by resetting muscle length. This provides  relief from spasms and restrictive movement.  The client is asked to participate in the session, using their own muscle energy, during a series of stretches and contractions against the therapist.  Respiratory assisted technique contributes to the lengthening of muscles also in a passive way.

Cross-fibre mobilisation

Cross-Fibre Mobilisation was born out of respect for Tom Bowen the developer of the Bowen technique. It is a gentle non-invasive technique that can be performed through clothing.

Cross-fibre mobilisation is a system of stimulating body reflexes.  Specific simple yet precise movements are executed across muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and connective tissue.  This gentle contact causes the neuromuscular system to reset all related tension levels promoting natural healing.  The cross fibre maneuvers affect the layer of fascia which are close to the body surface, therefore the moves are gentle and do not use deep pressure.
